Our Easter Adventure

Today started out good. Blair had to work so the kids and I made all the fixings for tacos and packed it in a picnic basket. We were going to take two of the horses to the grass lease and have a trail ride and a picnic, then hunt easter eggs and have a confetti egg war. Tanner helped me back up to the trailer and I buckled the kids in their seats and went to load up the horses. The newest mare, Nelly, did not want to get in the trailer. She was being stubborn. So I looped the lead rope around a beam in the trailer and stepped out to give her a little spank on the rump to make her get in....I did not tie her in....if she had pulled very hard she would have been loose... when I stepped out of the trailer she reared up and smashed her head on the trailer door...then reared up and did it again and lost her footing and fell with half her body and head under the back of the trailer. I pulled her free and when she stood up I noticed some cuts and scrapes on her face. I went to take her back to a stall to out her up and then she turned her head to look at me and there on her right eye lid was a HUGE gash. When she blinked I could look into the big gaping hole and see her eyeball! I freaked out.....I called my dad and was hysterically describing it to him and then I looked down and saw that she had a huge laceration on her left leg just below her knee. It was all the way to the muscle underneath.
Why do horses always manage to injure themselves when it is a holiday weekend. My dad called our normal vet and left him a message. Blair called the large animal vet out here in Greenwood and left a message. Then we frantically started calling people with horses to see if anyone had any sedatives to sedate her so we could fix it. We got ahold of one of the parents of a girl on Tanner's t-ball team and he was so kind and came right over with some drugs. Then we had to find sutures or staples....after calling in alot of favors we got our hands on some suture material and a skin stapler.
My neighbor, Courtney, came over and with her help and Blair we sedated poor Nelly and cleaned her wounds and got her all fixed up.... I bandaged her leg and we will see tomorrow when I take the bandage off to hose it down if the stitches hold....the laceration was in an odd place and she keeps pacing around so they may rip out....in which case we will have to sedate her again and redo it.
My awesome neighbor took her roundpen apart and hauled 4 of the panels over so that we could set up a temporary pen for Nelly in the back yard. Oh if only the barn was finished! But until we finish construction we have no true stalls for everyone....just pens with sheds in them.
What a crazy day! I am worn out! Thank heavens for good neighbors and amazing friends!

I'm back! LOL

Ok....so I have not blogged in a verrrrrrrry long time but I had a good excuse. I did not have internet access at the house except for my iPhone. And typing out a blog post on the phone was NOT going to happen!! LOL But I am no longer an iPhone user!! I downgraded to a NORMAL phone and opted to have internet at the house instead. I am so far happy with the choice....no more staring at a tiny screen and scrolling all over to see stuff!!!

So I hope to be able to keep up with my blog more and share some of the wacky, crazy, fun stuff that goes on out here at our house!

What's going on in our life....

Well.....We are trying to grow grass out here in the desert.....hoping to get that pesky sprinkler system in soon.
Blair got his wisdom tooth pulled on Wednesday....
Addy gets tubes again and her adenoids removed on the 22nd....she is still not talking and the doctor finally listened to me when I told him I don't think she can hear....we are hoping that she will start talking.....or actually that she will start talking in ENGLISH....she talks all the time....but nobody can understand her
Tanner is officially potty trained....he has been potty trained FOR EVER during the day....but we are now waking up dry. YEAHHHHHH!!!
we have a pet collard lizard that was caught at the lease and a pet King snake that I caught out at Blair's work.....I like the Snake better....he doesn't bite. The darn lizard is EVIL!! LOL and it can almost jump out of it's cage when you open it.
Blair is taking off two weeks from work for VACATION the first of June! How exciting!! We are going to Roosevelt to hang out at the river house for a week and then coming home to do stuff around here.
We have two litters of puppies due July 4th....one by my red boy who is almost a champion and the other is going to be sired by Butler....a Grand champion who is currently the #1 ranked parti poodle!! I am excited.
I am walking with the kids and two fo the five dogs every morning. I plan on eventually taking all the dogs but I am leaving the two pregnant girls at home and one of my boys is in Dallas with a friend to get his last win for his championship, get his health testing done and hopefully be de-barked!
My little sister is getting married in August...Tanner is the ring bearer and Addy is the flowergirl....we will see how that goes!! two little attitudes that are supposed to walk down the aisle with no adult supervision!! Should be fun
HMMMMMM......I can't think of anything else right now...we are just making our way through life day by day...trying to enjoy it....trying to learn from it

Rattle Snake!!!

Tanner was bitten by a rattlesnake while at my mom's house. We got to go to the ER and get 4 vials of antivenom and spent the night at the hospital. Tanner was a trooper....he enjoyed playing with the controls of the hospital bed.....going up and down and up and down. When his IV pump would beep he would start pushing buttons and turn the thing off!! LOL The poor nurse would have to answer a million questions while trying to fix it.
So....Tanner seemed to enjoy all the attention and milkshakes the nurses made him.
I am so thankful that everything turned out just fine.....We are going to try to avoid those pesky snakes from now on!! LOL

Quick update

I am proud to announce that Tucker is now a UKC Champion. Tucker was shown by Jax for his last competition win and ....he is now UKC CH Momma's Tuckered Out! I am thrilled..... Now we are working on titles for Dixie and Squirt who are hot on his heels!

Now that I am done announcing that I will update on the actual family! LOL Everyone is doing great. Blair is still loving work and we are taking advantage of the warm days to build dog pens and fencing, etc. Next on the agenda is a sprinkler system for the back yard! We already put one in the Gun Dog yard....funny how the dogs got sprinklers and grass first! LOL But that one was small enough Blair and Dad got to dig it by hand.

We are ready for the weather to turn warm and stay that way....the kids are going stir crazy on these cold days we keep having....although I am not ready for all the grass fires that are probably coming....Blair has been doing a little "Unofficial fireman duty" LOL HE was driving down the road and saw smoke and pulled up the peoples driveway to see what was going on....their chicken coop was up in flames...the homeowner saw Blair drive up so he came out to see who he was and Blair pointed the fire out to him and they tried to put it out with the hose...only to find out that the hose was running into the coop and melted!

Then just the other day there was a big grass fire and Blair hopped in his truck to go see. I turned around and he was gone! An hour later I finally called him and asked if he was ever coming home....he aparently was out at the fire command post talking to the fire chief and helping them shut in the wells that were about to be hit by the fire....I had to MAKE him come home! He was having fun. He came home smelling like a bonfire!

Tanner and Addy are both great....they are growing up too fast. We have been working on getting Addy to stop screaching when she doesn't like something. We have been teaching her to say "stop please" instead. So now she will stick her little finger in your face and shake it at you and say "SSSSOP" (Stop in her own little language she speaks)

HeadAche

It has been a long, long day! Lots of turmoil and frustration.....Today has changed alot of stuff for me....even somewhat embittered me...I know I am not supposed to hold onto a grudge or resentment....but it is hard when you feel this way....hard to deal with these feelings.....this frustration and these feelings.

Today is a day that will live in infamy! LOL

One good thing is the kids are spending the night at their grandparents....so I get to sleep in....AHHHH Sleep...how nice! in theory at least....I am not sure if the puppies got the memo about sleeping in....we'll see.
